1880 Lowe’s Directory

In 1880 Lowe’s Directory for Fermangh was published. This was a ‘one off’ publication which gave a wonderful historical snapshot of Enniskillen businesses for that year. It included over 60 full page adverts for businesses in the town – the streetscape is the ideal way to match each of these adverts. In addition to the adverts Lowe’s Directory also listed every business in the town.

Below are two long banners showing each advert matched to each building. However to print the full banners wouldn’t be practical and to print them page by page would require a book of 100 pages. So these are best viewed digitally using zoom and scroll facilities on a tablet/iPad or laptop and even on a smartphone.

In Enniskillen Museum Gordon Johnston’s model of the town in 1834 is amazing, based upon the Ordnance Survey Map 1834. This is an experimental 3D Photogrammetry model by Gaby Burns.
